Two South Haven police officers have been recognized by the department for their efforts to save lives over this past summer. Officer Zack Hathaway has been presented with a Professional Excellence Award for his actions at the scene of a fatal car crash on August 29th on I-196 near exit 18. The South Haven Police Department says that Hathaway entered the mangled vehicle and stabilized the cervical spine of a severely injured passenger, possibly saving a life. Also recognized this month was Officer Michaela Gurnoe, who was presented with a Life Saving Award for performing CPR on a woman having a heart attack on August third. The South Haven Police Department says that both officers are a credit to their profession.
