Celebration Cinema in Benton Harbor will begin showing movies with some modifications for people and families with special needs, including autism, later this month. The volume will be lower, the lights will remain on but dim, and movies will be shown in 2D with open captioning with limited previews. Celebration Cinema’s Emily Loeks talked to WSJM News about the reasons behind the Lights Up! Sound Down! screenings.

The first movie will be “Hotel Transylvania 2” on Saturday, September 26. Others will follow through January 2nd and will include “The Jungle Book,” “The Peanuts Movie,” “The Good Dinosaur” and “Star Wars Episide VII – The Force Awakens.” Loeks says they first started offering the movies in this fashion about three years ago in Grand Rapids, and they’re now working to roll it out to every city where they operate in west and central Michigan.
