Upton may face a November challenge from Kalamazoo Democrat

He hasn't yet made it official, but posts on Facebook suggest that activist, professor and Kalamazoo City Commissioner Don Cooney wants to run against Congressman Fred Upton in November. He says Upton's fallen short in his support for the working class, and he criticizes the moderate Republican's stances on the war in Iraq. Cooney has a strong base of support in Kalamazoo, but could struggle in the race if it materializes. He's a relative unknown outside the city, and the 6th district runs from Kalamazoo on to the Indiana border and across to Lake Michigan -- a lot of traditionally Republican territory.
