Upton Welcomes WWII Vets To DC
Andrew Green Reporting
|
Congressman Fred Upton hosted a group of Southwest Michigan World War II veterans in Washington on Thursday. The roughly 15 vets from the Sturgis area were there to see the World War II memorial as part of a program with Sturgis-based Riley Aviation called "Honor Flights", in which they're given free trips to DC. Upton, whose father is a WWII vet, says that it was first time many of them have been able to see the memorial, and he knows how much that can mean for them:
Thursday’s honor flight coincides with the Tenth Annual National Military Appreciation Month.
