Upton Supports Oil Reserve Suspension Plan


Congressman Fred Upton voted this week to temporarily suspend the placement of oil into the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve in order to free up additional supplies to ease gas prices. The reserve, which currently has about 703 million barrels of oil -- or enough to meet the country's oil needs for 58 days -- takes in about 60-thousand barrels a day. Upton says freeing those up will help, but it's no long-term solution:

The measure to suspend additions to the reserve passed in the House 385 to 25. It's also expected to be passed by the Senate.
