Two students in Berrien County will be receiving college scholarships from United Federal Credit Union this year. UFCU announced 45 hundred dollars in awards to eight students around Michigan on Tuesday. Among the recipients were Saint Joseph High School senior Andrew Schmidt, who was given a 500 dollar Regional Scholarship, and New Buffalo High School’s Megan Riley, also getting a 500 dollars. In the fall, Andrew plans to attend Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio in the fall, while Megan will be headed off to Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. UFCU says that it gives scholarships to high school seniors based on academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities, and an original essay on “People Helping People.”
