Struggling auto supplier Delphi reports 1Q loss of $589M

Struggling auto parts maker Delphi Corp. says its loss widened in the first quarter to $589 million, up 10.5 percent from the same quarter last year. The Troy-based company also said Friday that it has increased the size of a credit facility from $4.1 billion to $4.35 billion. It also says General Motors Corp. has agreed to speed up payments it would have made to Delphi after it emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Delphi says in a statement the actions give it enough money to support its plan to get out of bankruptcy. That plan has been delayed because of the worldwide credit crunch and the pullout of a key investor.
