Several millage requests around Berrien County have been defeated, but not by anywhere near as wide a margin as Proposal 1 on the state ballot. Voters in Baroda Township turned aside a police department millage, with that falling 309-271. In Galien Township, the renewal of a road millage failed by two votes, 98-96 and an operating millage was shot down by 53 votes, 127-74. Voters in Galien did pass a millage renewal for emergency services. Hagar Township’s millage request for general operating purposes lost by 66 votes, and a fire millage in Watervliet Township was defeated by just three votes, 217-214.
