New Buffalo man charged in a federal court after he was caught selling stolen guns has been sentenced to eight years in prison. US attorney Charles Gross says that 30 year-old Brian John Bass was arrested last summer when the Berrien County Sheriffs Department got a tip that he'd been breaking into homes in Southwest Michigan and Northern Indiana, and selling the items he had stolen, including firearms. He was indicted as part of Project Safe Neighborhood, a federal and local partnership to fight gun crimes in Western Michigan, and pleaded guilty in August to illegally possessing stolen shotguns. After serving his prison sentence, he'll be on three years of supervised release.
