Michigan House OKs worker activity bill

Workers couldn't be fired for their off-the-clock activities, as long as they're legal and not done on the job site, under legislation passed by the state House. The bills are designed to prevent employers from firing or not hiring workers who may smoke or engage in other legal behavior that some job providers frown upon. The main bill in the package passed by a 63-45 vote yesterday. Other measures would prevent employers from firing, refusing to hire or discriminating against employees based on their credit history, physical appearance or health. The bills next will go to the Senate.
