Michigan Gas Utilities seeks increase

as prices at four dollars at the pump brace yourself for a possible increase from Michigan Gas Utilities. The utilities company cited inflationary increases to cost over the past five years as the reason they have applied for a 5.8 percent increase in its natural gas rates. The increase if approved would relate to about a six dollar a month increase for the typical residential customer. While the Michigan Public Service Commission reviews the current increase request Michigan Gas is asking for a 4.4 percent interim increase subject to refund. Michigan Gas Utilities president Gary Erickson says they are sensitive to their customers frustration over rising fuel costs. Erickson said indications are prices could be even higher next winter.
