Michigan Works in Benton Harbor is offering young people without a high school diploma a chance to turn their lives around with its second Youth Build class, set to start next month. Spokewoman Candice Elders says that Youth Build is a program that gives GED and job skills training to at-risk youths between 18 and 24 by having them work on actual building projects...and it's been inspiring to see how well it's worked so far:

The first class of 15 is currently in New Orleans helping to rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina...and the next class will work on housing for low-income families locally. They're recruiting for the class now, with an information session planned for next Wednesday at the MI Works office in Benton Harbor. It runs from five-30 to seven.
