Grant Awarded To LMC For Its New Nuclear Degree Program


The Federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission has awarded an 82-thousand dollar grant to Lake Michigan College to create scholarships for its new Energy Production Technology program. It's an effort announced by LMC earlier this year that will see the college working directly with the Cook and Palisades nuclear plants to train workers for the nuclear industry. Congressman Fred Upton was on hand for an announcement of the grant this week at the Cook plant in Bridgman...and he says the LMC partnership with the two plants is a perfect opportunity:

Upton added that as nuclear energy becomes more important in the coming years, he hopes to see expansions come to Southwest Michigan's two plants, which could mean thousands of jobs for the area.
