Benton Harbor City Commissioner Bryan Joseph is calling for more oversight of the funds provided to city officials for travel expenses. This week, he asked in an open letter that the city Finance Director audit all prior travel expenses by commissioners over the last five years, and provide a detailed report regarding any funds issued to them that haven't been properly documented or refunded. He said that it's one area of local government that hasn't been controlled enough:

In particular, Joseph called into question plans for five commissioners to attend the National Conference of Black Mayors this June in New Orleans. The trip is expected to cost the city over twelve-thousand dollars.
