After serving 32 years of a life sentence Floyd Caldwell has now been granted parole. Caldwell has claimed his innocence for decades saying a retired Berrien County judge Harry Laity wrongly convicted him of armed robbery at the judges home in Benton Harbor back in 1975. Caldwell was sentenced to two life terms for robbing the judge and his wife at knife point as they had returned home from a banquet. Caldwell's prior police record included 10 arrest prior to the 1975 incident, and he was caught with a ring taken from the robbery. Caldwell had been waiting since May to learn of his fate after appearing before the Michigan Parole board. He will be released from the Lakeland Correctional facility in Coldwater August 14th.
