Marie Jose Fignole, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024, in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Born on December 30, 1946, in Port Au Prince, Haiti, Marie’s journey through life was marked by her unyielding kindness and her dedication to her family and community. She brought joy and comfort to all who knew her, leaving a legacy of warmth and compassion.
Marie’s early years in Haiti laid the foundation for a life of service and care. She moved to the United States, where she furthered her education, earning an Associate’s degree in nursing from Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York. Her career in nursing was more than a profession; it was a calling that allowed her to touch the lives of countless individuals with her healing presence.
A devout member of the All Nations Seventh-day Adventist Church, Marie’s faith was a cornerstone of her existence. She lived her beliefs through her actions, becoming a cherished medical missionary within her community. Her commitment to her faith and her church was unwavering, and she found great joy in serving others.
Marie’s family was the center of her world. She is survived by her loving children, Robert Weston and his wife Ana Bolanos, Camille Weston, and Terence Weston. Her legacy continues through her adored grandchildren, Mercy (Blattner) Weston (Troy), Lexi Weston, and Kirabo Bolanos-Weston, who will carry forward her teachings of love and kindness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Carmen Fignole, who instilled in her the values of compassion and generosity that she so effortlessly embodied.
Known affectionately as “Grandma Marie,” she embraced the role with open arms, spreading her joyous spirit to all generations. Her philosophy of life was simple yet profound: she was “blessed, happy, and thankful,” a sentiment she shared with everyone she encountered. Marie’s approach to life was infectious, and she had the unique ability to uplift the spirits of those around her with her unwavering positivity and faith.
Marie’s interests were a reflection of her altruistic nature. As a medical missionary, she dedicated herself to the well-being of others, and her happiness was derived from the happiness she brought to those in need. Her love for her community was evident in every smile she shared and every comforting word she spoke. More than a medical missionary, Marie was a prayer warrior. Marie was a humble but powerful prayer warrior who spent many hours praying for family, loved ones, and her community. She was a source of strength and support, a pillar in her community, and a nurturing presence in the lives of her family and friends. Her memory will be cherished and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have felt her warmth.
Marie Jose Fignole’s life was a testament to the power of love and the impact one person can have on the world around them. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness and generosity will live on through the lives of those she touched. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we take solace in knowing that her journey was once filled with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love.
