Charles A. Murphy, 77, of Bridgman, MI, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, surrounded by his family at home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, at 12 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., with Robert Jackson officiating. Friends may visit with the family an hour prior to the service, from 11 am until 12 pm at the funeral home. Charles was born on January 26, 1947, in Clinton, IA, to James & Dorothy (Humphrey) Murphy. Following his graduation from Clinton High School, Charles honorably served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. Following his service, Charles continued his education at the Chicago College of Commerce. On March 14, 1970, Charles married the love of his life, Maria “Connie” Cifuentes, in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Professionally, Charles served well over thirty years as a Court Reporter. Most of this was spent owning and operating Murphy Reporting in St. Joseph, retiring in in 2004. After a short time in retirement, Charles joined the Pat Moretti Group which bought his business and enjoyed working several more years. An avid sports fan, Charles enjoyed cheering for the Chicago Cubs, Bears and Notre Dame. Charles was a competitor himself, loved golfing, was a great card player and enjoyed fishing.

A Vietnam Veteran, Charles loved his country and was passionately patriotic. Charles was a true family man and always very supportive of his children and grandchildren through all their pursuits. He had a very calming presence, seemed to always know the right way to resolve conflict, and maintained a positive outlook on life that was contagious. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Connie; children, Jennifer (Robert) Jackson of St. Joseph, Brian Murphy of St. Joseph and Erick Murphy of Stevensville; grandchildren, Justin Jackson, Dylan Jackson, Jaylin Jackson, Austin Murphy, Ethan Murphy, Anya Murphy and Elija Murphy; siblings, John (Peggy) Murphy and Glenna (Jerry) Pirch and sister-in-law, Patricia Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Dorothy and siblings, Mike Murphy, Jeanette Williams, Pat Murphy.
