Cynthia Lorraine Brown Shannon, age 66, affectionately known as (Cynt) was the eldest of four children, born June 19, 1958, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Robert and Lula (Lawrence) Brown. She departed this earthly life on August 29, 2024.

Cynthia was educated in the Mecklenburg County Public Schools, graduating from Garinger High School in 1976 and continued her education at Appalachian State University.

Cynthia met and married Carl Shannon and moved to Benton Harbor, MI in 1981. To this union two children were born, Lakisha and Zakiyah. Her love extended deeply to her two cherished grandchildren, JeVaughnte and Ja’Niyah, who brought immense joy to her life.

Cynthia’s career began at Gast Manufacturing Inc. She later joined and served her community for over 20 years as a dedicated employee of the United States Postal Service. Her work was more than just a job; it was a testament to her commitment to reliability, service, and hard work.

A devout woman of faith, Cynthia found her greatest calling in serving and loving God. Her deep spiritual conviction was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her in all she did, as a servant and leader.  Cynthia was passionate about helping others, always putting the needs of those around her before her own. Her selflessness, compassion, and kindness were evident to all who knew her, and she touched countless lives with her generosity and warmth.

Cynthia was a faithful member of Progressive M.B. Church, under the leadership of Pastor James O. Childs, serving as a member of the Choir, Mission II, and Youth Leader; establishing the “Angel Choir.” For over 30 years, she was loved by the children she ministered and was affectionately known as Aunt Cynt.  She later joined and served devotedly at New Good Hope M.B. Church, Buchanan, MI, under the leadership of Pastor Bryan Watkins.

Cynthia’s legacy of love, service and faith will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those she served with such grace and dedication.

Cynthia leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Carl Shannon of Benton Harbor, MI; two daughters, Lakisha Shannon of Sachse, TX and Zakiyah Shannon of Indianapolis, IN; two grandchildren, JeVaughnte and Ja’Niyah Shannon; two brothers, Larry and Cedric “Gene” Brown both of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Lois (Lawrence) Brandon of Harrisburg, NC; god daughter, Kierra Matthews of Charlotte, NC; mother-in-law, Marva Pullen of St. Joseph, MI; sister-in-law, Carol (Mark) Cheeks of Haymarket, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all of whom will remember her as a strong presence in their lives.
