The South Haven and Van Buren County Convention and Visitors Bureau is inviting everyone to take to the great outdoors and see what the area has to offer this summer with its first ever Pure Michigan Trail Town Challenge.

The bureau’s Trenton Bulat tells us the challenge invites everyone to check out eleven designated locations throughout parks, trails, and preserves in the area.

We have such a wide and diverse range of parks and trails from the state park all the way up to the Kal-Haven Trail to kind of promote that and encourage people to get out in the outlying areas and explore the natural attractions around South Haven, and so we created a digitized, gamified challenge,” Bulat said.

Bulat says the challenge will take hikers to beaches, forests, and more. What are some of the attractions the visitors bureau wanted to show off?

We definitely like people to see the new and improved revamped Kal-Haven Trail, which was closed for a major resurfacing project just about all of last year. That reopened with a broadened trail with new, fresh limestone and a new trail that can accommodate more traffic.”

Anyone can register for the trail challenge at the bureau’s website. After checking in virtually at each checkpoint using their cell phone, those who have completed the challenge will receive a South Haven Pure Michigan Trail Town hat.

Bulat says this is a fun way to ensure someone gets the full South Haven experience, noting you could complete the challenge in one day or spread it out all summer.

The challenge runs through October.
