With the Fourth of July just a couple of weeks away, AAA forecasts 2.6 million Michiganders will travel over the holiday, and 70.9 million will travel nationwide.

AAA of Michigan spokesperson Adrienne Woodland tells us the Independence Day travel forecast measures domestic trips of 50 miles or more during a 9-day period from Saturday, June 29 to Sunday, July 7.

We expect to set new records on the road and in the sky during this week,” Woodland said. “And nationally, there will be about 3.5 million more travelers than what we had last year. So that definitely means more people at the airports, more people at popular attractions and places like beaches, lakes, and theme parks.”

Consumers are expected to increase spending by 5.5% compared to a year ago, despite concerns about inflation.

Road travel in Michigan is expected to set a record for the second consecutive year with more than 2.3 million Michiganders taking a road trip. That’s nearly 117,000 more than last year. The rest of the 2.6 million travelling will take to the air.
