More construction will begin this week in Van Buren County.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin work on M-40 between the Cass and Van Buren county line and 72nd Avenue. MDOT’s Nick Schirripa said this is part of an ongoing resurfacing project.

What we are doing, it’s chip sealing,” Schirripa said. “It’s literally a moving operation that’ll move along that stretch and and they’ll do a segment at a time.”

The Michigan Department of Transportation is continuing its $3.8 million investment to resurface more than 39 miles of M-40, M-43, US-12, and I-196 in Berrien and Van Buren counties. The work includes crack filling, surface sealing and pavement markings. The project already began on May 29,at seven different locations throughout the region.

The current project on M-40 is expected to continue throughout July, with the complete resurfacing project slated to end in August.
