Thousands of people will flood into South Haven the weekend of July 6 and 7 as the 65th annual South Haven Art Fair is held at Stanley Johnston Park.

South Haven Center for the Arts Director Kerry Hagy tells us the event is a major fundraiser for the center, giving everyone a chance to browse the work of 120 artists from all over the country.

This is our biggest event each year for the Art Fair, and it started 65 years ago with a clothesline show in the park,” Hagy said. “It’s always been that first weekend of July, and then it’s over the years become a two-day juried fine art fair.”

Hagy says visitors will find art across twelve media categories that include painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, wood, fiber, and mixed media. The event also showcases some local talent.

We have a lot of very talented artists in South Haven. One South Haven artist that will be joining us is named Robin Reva. She is a painter, she’s a retired art teacher, and this is her second year with us at the fair, which is really exciting.”

Hagy says they’ll also offer people a chance to try out glassblowing and anyone can stop by the family art tent for hands-on art demonstrations.

Hagy urges people to come ready to buy some art from the hardworking artists who travel into town. With the Krasl Art Fair happening in St. Joseph the following week, Hagy says some artists make the two fairs a vacation of-sorts, setting up shop at both.

With fireworks that Wednesday, the Fourth of July parade the next day, and then the art fair starting that Saturday, she expects quite a busy weekend.
