David Lee Steinbauer, 89, passed away March 6, 2024.

He was born on December 4, 1934, in Niles, Michigan. He was proceeded in death by his father, Charles Steinbauer and his mother, Dorothy Steinbauer. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Alfretta Steinbauer, his second wife, Karen Steinbauer, his brother Ted Steinbauer and his half brother, Edward Steinbauer.

Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Dana (David) Simanton, of Niles, MI, Lori (Bob) Burke of McKinney, TX, and David (Lisa) Steinbauer of Plano, TX along with six grandchildren Aaron (Meredith) Marrs, Allison Burke, Christina Burke, Stephen Steinbauer, Beth (Ronnie) (Steinbauer) Schmidt, and Wesley Steinbauer, and three great grand children, Audrey Marrs and Eleanor and Aralyn Schmidt.

His step children are David (Lisa) Bogaert of Austin, TX, Jennifer (Chris) Saari of Fortville, IN, and Eric (Lori) Markle of Granger, IN along with seven step grandchildren, Annabelle and Sadie Bogaert, Lindsey (Kyler) Rothhaar, Turner Saari, and Conner, Evan and Ava Markle.

David was a 1952 graduate of Niles Senior High School and pursued a life long career in the Tool and Die industry. He began his career as a tool and die apprentice after high school. He also served his country in the National Guard. For over 50 years, his training and experience led him to expanded technical, sales and marketing roles, finishing his career as President of Sales and Marketing for Capital Technologies, Inc. in South Bend, Indiana. He retired at the age of 70 and moved to McKinney, Texas to pursue his many interests and hobbies.

Throughout his life he enjoyed music, playing the piano, tuning pianos, singing in his high school Glee Club and later in the choir at Trinity Presbyterian Church. He had an extensive tool collection and loved taking on building projects large and small to help family and friends. He was a life long tennis player and fan. He also enjoyed spending summers and boating in South Haven, Michigan with family and friends. He was an active member of the McKinney Newcomer’s Club and the McKinney Sr. Men’s Group. He also enjoyed being part of various tennis and card groups.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association would be welcomed.

A Memorial Service at Brown Funeral Home in Niles, Michigan will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery Portage Road, South Bend, Indiana.
