Joan Marie Clark, 99, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 in Niles, Michigan.

Joan was born on February 28, 1925 in La Porte, Indiana to the late Harold G. Steigely and Magdeline Salome (Shaw) Steigely.

Along with her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul C. Clark and son, Scott C. Clark.

Left to cherish the memory of Joan are her daughters, Sue Ann (Jack) Spence and Lynn Marie (Robert) Fujawa; grandchildren, Jennifer Bailey, Brian (April) Spence, Kevin (Julie) Spence, Kimberly (Jeremy) Clanton, Christopher (Heather) Fujawa, and Jami Fujawa; son Scott’s wife, Jacque Clark and her 3 children and 25 great-grandchildren.

After graduating from Niles High School, Joan began working for the State of Michigan. It was here she also found more than expected, meeting her beloved husband of 59 years, Paul. She took enormous pride in her work and over time she advanced to a claims examiner giving care and meticulous attention to each case assigned to her.

Joan’s laughter frequently filled a room as she indulged in episodes of “The Golden Girls” and “I Love Lucy.” Her passion for collecting was evident in her impressive assembly of owls and dolls, each piece unique from the other. She had an adventurous side that shone brightly whenever she embarked on escapades with her grandchildren. These moments not only nurtured an unbreakable bond but created a treasure trove of memories that will be cherished forever.

An avid Cubs fan, Joan experienced great joy cheering on her favorite baseball team. To lift her spirits from a Cubbies loss, she would pass the time playing slot machines in hopes of a jackpot. The real treasure, however, were the relationships she fostered with those around her. Joan’s essence was rooted in her generous spirit often extending a hand of support and a heart full of love to those around her.

Truly her legacy of affection and selflessness endures, echoed in the lives of all who knew her.

Memorial contributions may be made out to HarmonyCares Hospice, 5838 Brick Rd #101, South Bend, IN 46628.
