Joseph Lee Wallace, a cherished patriarch, and respected community member, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, in Dowagiac, Michigan, at the age of 89. Born on April 23, 1935, in Aliceville, Alabama, Joseph was the son of the late Gillie and Anna (Hayes) Wallace.

Joseph’s early years in Aliceville laid a strong foundation for the man he would become. He often fondly recalled his roots with his favorite saying, “I’m the stickman from Aliceville, Alabama, come up under Governor Wallace.”

After moving to Michigan, Joseph built a life for his family and worked as a Die Caster, where his hard work and reliability earned him the respect of his colleagues.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Theresa (Parker) Wallace, his daughter Sherrie Wallace, his step-daughter Rochella Glasper, and his parents. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Earl Ball, Tommy Ball, Homer Ball, Myrtle Davenport, and Jewel Ball.

His legacy continues through his surviving children, Lola Brown, Venita Wallace, Lee Taylor, and Devon Wallace, and his god-daughter Tara Smith. Joseph’s life was further enriched by his 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his siblings Pearl Hunt, Mary Thomas, Delois White, and Ida Taylor.

Funeral services to honor Joseph’s life will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
