Cornerstone Alliance has announced a new program to help rural communities attract the developers of new housing.

Cornerstone says its Rural Readiness Program will equip communities with the knowledge and tools necessary to attract and support new housing and mixed-use development.

The program offers a two-track approach focusing on education and development readiness. Municipal leaders will have a chance to attend educational sessions to gain insight into housing development.

Cornerstone’s Andrew Haan says they’re seeking to “drive sustainable growth and economic prosperity in Southwest Michigan.”

The first session, “Understanding the Real Estate Redevelopment Process,” is set for May 14 in The Oak Room at the Citadel. Attendees will delve into the details of planning, pre-development, and construction.

Cornerstone says it’s also selecting four communities to serve as Focus Communities, which will received additional services and consulting.

Cornerstone Alliance is now reaching out to local governments to get them involved in the program.
