Former St. Joseph City Manager Frank Walsh is the target of scrutiny in Meridian Township.

The Meridian Township Board of Trustees met last night in closed session for three and a half hours to reportedly discuss an investigation into Walsh’s alleged actions as Meridian Township Manager, the role he currently holds.

Employee complaints and an investigation into Walsh’s actions were first reported by CBS affiliate WLNS in Lansing. Those allegations include Walsh’s unfair distribution of township dollars, using township resources to support his personal consulting business, and creating a toxic workplace environment.

Asked for comment, Walsh would not speak to the investigation.

The timeline started in August last year when formal complaints were lodged against Walsh. In December his annual employee evaluation was delayed due to the investigation, and since then, the Zausmer law firm in Southfield has been preparing its report.

Tuesday night, the Meridian board met with Walsh in closed session. Shortly after 11 pm, the board recessed to continue discussions tonight at 6pm. We’re told the board is considering a number of options ranging from no action to terminating Walsh’s employment or asking him to resign.

Walsh worked as St. Joseph city manager for 17 years, leaving in 2013 for his role in Meridian Township. His pension after leaving the city of St. Joseph was just over $83,500 per year.

This is a developing story and we will provide updates accordingly.
