Actor Ernie Hudson has enabled more than 90 students from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan to see the new Ghostbusters movie.

The GhostLight Theater’s Paul Mow tells us Hudson has done plenty of work with the theater, and Mow suggested to him that he give a treat to some local kids.

I said, ‘Hey Ernie, you interested in the kids seeing your movie?’ And we checked out what it would cost to rent out a theater,” Mow said. “They had a special that we could rent out a theater. I think the theater had 95 seats and at least that many kids were there yesterday. Three different campuses of the Boys and Girls Club, and we love working with them.”

So, the theater was rented this Tuesday and the kids all got to see Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire for free. A message from Ernie Hudson was played for them before the movie.

“Like you, I’m from Benton Harbor, and when I was a kid, there wasn’t a theater that I could learn about acting, but you guys have the Ghost Light Theater, which is a wonderful theater,” Hudson said. “And of course you have the Boys and Girls Club and a lot of really, really good people who can help you achieve any dream that you have. So, I’m so happy for you.”

Mow says Hudson has done productions with the GhostLight Theater and has been a backer since it was started.

Mow was talking to Hudson as they seek to raise funds for the GhostLight summer camp, CircEsteem, when the idea of taking the kids to the movies came up. Anyone who wants to make a donation to the camp or sponsor a student can contact the GhostLight Theater.
