Biden administration officials have taken the wraps off a program to train workers for electric vehicle battery plants.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, in Lansing this week, said this is a new industry that requires specific training.

We now have a certified training program, which we are ready to pilot across America in plants so that we can refine it so that when the Ultium plant, represented by the UAW, is hiring and turning the switches on, they will be able to have a workforce that is trained,” Granholm said.

It will still be a year before the program is past the pilot stage. However, Granholm says that fits perfectly with the construction timetable for EV battery plants.
