A Chikaming Township woman is dead following a fire at a mobile home on Tuesday.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says it and the Chikaming Township Fire Department responded to the home at 8000 Warren Woods Road, or Lakewood Estates Manufactured Homes, shortly after 4:35 a.m.
They arrived to find one resident standing outside and suffering from smoke inhalation. He said there was one other person still inside and who couldn’t get out.
Firefighters put out the fire and found the body of 62-year-old Dawn Popp. An autopsy will be done at the Western Michigan Medical Examiner’s Office.
The man who was found outside the home was taken to a hospital in Michigan City to be treated.
