South Haven Area Emergency Services is among several Van Buren County fire departments that responded to a commercial building fire in Bangor Saturday morning. The alarm at the Arlington Trading Post on M-43 east of downtown Bangor was sounded at 4:45 a.m.
Bangor Community Fire Department immediately requested mutual aid from SHAES, Columbia Township, Covert Township, Hartford and Lawrence fire departments.
The fire was reported by a Bangor police officer while on patrol. Bangor responders said the front of the building was ablaze when they arrived. The roof at the front of the building the building collapsed almost immediately upon their arrival forcing an exterior attack. Aerial units from SHAES and Hartford were put into service.
M-43 east of Bangor was closed in both directions.
Firefighters remain on the scene for several hours.
