A man in his 60s has died in a house fire in Van Buren County. Sheriff’s deputies and Michigan State Police responded to the fire in Almena Township in the 45-thousand block of County Road 653 just after 7 pm Monday and saw smoke billowing from the doorway. They helped someone near the door get away from the home safely and the Paw Paw Fire Department put out the flames. Firefighters found the man inside the home and lifesaving efforts failed once he was pulled out. One sheriff’s deputy was treated and released from the Lakeview Emergency Room for smoke inhalation. The fire remains under investigation.
