The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a deadly crash early Sunday morning. Deputies and the Mattawan Fire Department were called to the 25-thousand block of County Road 375 in Almena Township just after 1 a.m. for the fiery wreck. The SUV was westbound on County Road 375 when the driver left the road and hit a tree. The driver was dead when first responders arrived. It’s not yet known if drugs or alcohol had any role in the wreck. Identification of the driver, including gender, is still pending.
