It looks like there will be a statewide vote of the people in Michigan to decide if recreational marijuana should be legalized. Speaker of the Michigan House Tom Leonard has reaffirming a vote by the people will have the final say on the measure in November. He told Michigan News Network the matter will not be decided by legislative Republicans.
“It wouldn’t be a matter of Republicans being able to amend it,” Leonard said. “It would be a matter of this body being able to amend it. I understand that argument. However, there is simply no support within this chamber right now to pass this legislation or pass this measure.”
Michigan voters have some pretty strong feelings when it comes to legalizing pot. According to the latest State of the State Survey from Michigan State University, 61% of respondants are in support. However, what will really matter is who bothers to vote in November
