There is a resolution before the Michigan House calling on the federal government to either enforce the federal ban on marijuana or decriminalize it nationally and let it be an issue for states to decide. Macomb County Republican Jeff Yaroch is the sponsor. He spoke with Michigan News Network about the issue.
“What do we do if the federal government decides this year to change its position?” Yaroch said. “We’ve kind of had a bury the head in the sand kind of attitude. So, the resolution is to try to put some pressure on Congress. Just make a decision so we know how to legislate in our state.”
Yaroch cautions the database that will be built by state regulators of medical marijuana use will essentially be a database for the federal government to use to go after users of the drug without clarification by Congress.
