A pair of southwest Michigan state senators say they’re growing tired of the mudslinging they’re seeing in the race for president. Senator Tonya Schuitmaker of Lawton says issues are being ignored.
“We need to address big problems, and unfortunately I think there are more personal attacks than there is talking aobut the real issues facing our country,” said Schuitmaker.
Senator Margaret O’Brien of Portage says Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are talking too much about each other, and she’s been disheartened by the election so far. Both Schuitmaker and O’Brien stopped short of condemning Trump’s 2005 remarks to an entertainment reporter in which he boasted of being able to get away with sexually assaulting women because he’s a celebrity.
