Due to Daylight Savings Time, drivers are being reminded to take extra care when they hit the road Monday morning. Michael Frezell, with the Michigan Department of Transportation, says it will be darker in the morning because sunrise will occur one hour later.
“We’re going to have bicyclists out on the road, and there will be kids going to school in the morning,” Frezell told WSJM. “So, it will be a little darker in the morning now. We really want to recommend that people wear brighter clothing, possibly reflective clothing, in the morning so drivers pay attention.”
Frezell says drivers should also take care not to be distracted when behind the wheel, and try to go to bed an hour earlier than usual to fight off fatigue. Additionally, safety officials say Daylight Savings is an opportunity to change the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Everyone will “spring forward” at two am Sund
