A Michigan State Police trooper from the Paw Paw post has received an award for her efforts to look “past the stop.” Trooper Lena Wileczek is a 2015 recipient of the Corporal Samuel A. Mapes Criminal Patrol and Investigation Award. It’s given to troopers who excel in patrol-generated felony arrests. Wileczek was handed the honor at a ceremony in Lansing at the MSP Training Academy Thursday. She’s one of just 64 troopers to get the award this for 2015. Michigan State Police say the honor is named for Corporal Samuel Mapes, one of the MSP’s early pioneers in criminal patrol who was killed during a rum running bust in 1927.
